We are able to update this information using a variety of public and private data sources which allow us to update the ownership and operatorship of the fields.  Since the land does not move there are effective 3 things that can happen to the boundary/polygon:

  1. It is sold/transferred to another person/entity (most common)
  2. 2 CLUs (boundaries/polygons) Are combined to become 1
  3. 1 CLU (boundary/polygon) is broken into more than 1

Through a combination of FOIA requests and public records deed data we are able to connect/reconnect new owners/operators to land. Though #2 and #3 happen infrequently we are typically able connect people to the CLUs but are not able to draw the new boundary lines related to the splits in #3.
