Do you have a database of Canadian farmers?
No, we have US data only.
Why is your data a year old?
Our data is obtained through FOIA requests and it is only available for the previous year. The information we currently have is not viewing or predicting what is currently growing on the fields for the current year.
Do you have crop yields at the field or farm level?
FarmMarket data currently has crop yield at a county level.
How do you identify operator status?
Operator status is identified via a multi-step process that utilizes prior producer codes, deed information and purchasing behavior.
How do you update your grower database, and how often?
We update all of our records annually through a combination of public sources like the USDA, state and local government, and also include privates sources only made available to DTN. The grower database has the land & crop information updated annually and the grower address information and phone numbers updated bi-annually. Email addresses are updated
How do we get email addresses?
All the emails we capture are with permission to use by us or others. These were obtained through what is known as Co-Registration where essentially the individual opted-in or subscribed to something (e.g. Netflix, AOL Travel, etc.) and in doing so, the terms and conditions provided that this information may be made available to other
What coverage do you have on phones and emails?
We have on 66% of records on phones (411 directory), 60% on email addresses, and 23% on mobile phones. These percentages may vary by region and demographic.
How often is the data updated?
Address updating (NCOA/PCOA address standardization), Phones (411 directory) and email are all updated quarterly. Operators/Owner and prior crop year information is updated annually in the 2nd quarter. We update in-season crops (6 crops and 32 states) in July and again in August and predictive/next year’s crop in October before the next crop year.
Can you flag for organic farmers in FarmFocus or FieldVision? What determines if a farmer is organic and how is the data collected?
Yes. In FarmFocus we can flag organic growers who are also traditional crop growers. FarmMarket data accesses government provided data of Certified Organic Growers. The file is updated annually. However, we cannot determine which specific crop is organic, only if the farmer has been certified as being an organic grower.
